Another, and I promise the last, story from that TGAH episode I storyboarded.

I was lunching alone at a long table near the craft service wagon on the set waiting for Robert Culp to be available to work with me.  Co-star Connie Selleca sat down directly across the table. 

I was in my early twenties and still morbidly shy, particularly around beautiful TV actresses.  It became hard to breathe.

But she had her baby with her, and this gave me a tension-breaking idea.  I smiled and said, "what a beautiful baby."

She totally ignored me, undid her blouse, and started to nurse. 

I ate the rest of my lunch staring at my plate, face blazing with embarrassment.

I read later she was a noted practical joker, who once pranked her then-husband Gil Gerard by pretending to be dead in a bathtub of reddened water.

So I suspect she quite enjoyed the whole thing.

It makes me wonder if tihgns would be different if baseball had been invented 30 years ago instead of 130. If statisticians would have had control over the statistics and baseball analysis instead of journalists/managers/players. It's not worth asking "what" would be different or if tihgns would be "better" the other way around, but it's worth knowing that tihgns "could" be different, if for nothing else than to know that what happened isn't the natural answer. About intuitions, I think we're in agreement that they influence our behavior. But isn't it necessary to get people to look past those intuitions to actual evidence? It certainly explains behavior, but why does it influence behavior? Is it instinct? Is it socialized? Is intuition an evolutionary adaptation? I think we agree that intuition matters, but I'm trying to ask why it matters.

We're glad to hear it. On the stats, I really like your line "All stats are fwlaed, and all need to be interpreted." The WARs are the closest thing to being a be-all-end-all statistic, but their components are far from perfect. When I have taken a look at the awards, I've started at the WARs, but I've had to delve deeper into them to see if there's anything fishy. If there is, I try to adjust the values. No stat is perfect, as you mentioned, but the idea is to understand what those flaws are and take precautions when using it. As for the difference between new and old, I would argue the old ones have more and more significant flaws, but no one should take the new ones for granted either.
