These guys have it -- they're doing an interstitial what-if comic using the characters from Hamlet.
What's next, R. Crumb's take on the Bible? (Oh.)
They seem to have put a lot of thought into what they're doing, and I like the art. Wouldn't be surprised to see this turn up on awards lists.
The Concrete story I just inked is set in one -- Haleakala, on the island of Maui. Here's Concrete going down a lava tube (the volcano has long been inactive) to investigate what sounds like a human voice.
The panel where Maureen and Larry look at each other with worry has sound effects of Concrete crashing off the walls and to the floor of the passage.
My dad lived on Maui for a while. Visiting him there was always heavenly, except the time I fell down a small waterfall and concussed myself, creating a temporary problem with short-term memory.
My late sister used to say we're all born geniuses, but each time we bang our heads we drop a bit of IQ. I half believe her.

Reassuring words about ash effects.
The eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull (learning to pronounce it properly, "EYE-a-fyat-la-jo-kutl," really impresses the chicks), could be the biggest event of our lives.
Why? If it keeps pumping out ash, there could be another Year Without a Summer.
Famine, and the political turmoil that accompanies it, could make for a very ugly time.
And a beautiful one, for those safe enough to enjoy it.
Strange to think, if the article at that link is correct, that it led to both the founding of the LDS church and the composition of Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus.

It's too early to tell, and it's a good thing that the initial eruption was not nearly as violent as Mount Tambora 1815.
